APPLE PRODUCTS, ARE THEY REALLY THAT GREAT?

It has been a fraught week for our lass and myself to try and get a computer that works and after a weeks trying and two IMACs later, our lass still has no working computer and her old G4 has crashed so she is Apple(less).

I on the other hand have a perfectly working (touch wood) computer. Which set up and ready to go in minutes.

So it begs the question.

Are Apple products really that great?

I work for a mobile phone company and the desire of people to own the latest apple I phone is so great they will pay hundreds of pounds to get out of contracts, yet another hundred pound for the product itself and then sign up for a two year deal which will cost them a grand if not more.

But why?

Is it brand or product, is Apple the Nike of the mobile and computer world. It is seen as am elusive item and because of sleek design it covers over some flaws of design. Anyone who had the Apple I phone 4 and just happened to be left handed found that out to their cost. When the top dog at Apple was promoting his new product he had to ask everyone to switch theirs off so he could demonstrate it due to the product not working with to many trying to work off the wifi at once. This would have been a fatal blow to a products career yet Apple brush it aside.

For myself me and my lass have tried and failed twice to get a IMAC the first was an ex display so can be forgiven for having a faulty screen where the pixels were fading a damaged. But the second one was brand new just out of the box and never been touched.

It's fault came apparent straight away a pixel had gone in the bottom right hand corner. We thought it was just a tiny dot and it would not detract from the item itself as you could hardly notice it. We proceeded to load the product up and set it ready for our lass. The screen then flickered when you went onto the internet and the very next day the dot had grown in the corner.

If you spend £1,200 on anything you expect perfection, so back it went to the store and refund given. So at present my own experience with apple product is not good. I have family member who would never touch apple phones as in the past the old phones seem to just crash without warning and not last the two years you have to sign up to pay for them.

So is it really that great?

What are your own experiences?

I myself have nearly convinced our lass to get a much cheaper and equally good windows 7 computer so that is one less devotee to Apple.

42

42 As we universally know is the meaning of life according to Douglas Adams. For me today it was the number of connections which had increased in the two hour push.

May I thank all the new people who connected and some of my friends who have been with me since the beginning. It was an interesting couple of hours and although I didn't reach my goal and first thresh hold of 1,000 connection but I definitely made a good movement towards it.

Two hour push for a thousand contacts

I have my last day off for a while now, so I thought I would use today to catch up on things and I know in the grand scheme of things it maybe not important but it is also good to rest your mind as it is to work it. So I am going to spend the next two hours to see if I can expand the connections to the first thresh hold of 1,000.

So this is how it stands at the moment and I will add thru the next two hours to how it is going.

A country loses its proof of ID

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11565853

It seems like millions of other people the country of Fiji has lost its birth certificate. A document handed over when it was made independent 40 years ago has been lost and like any citizen in the UK they have had to go back to the central records office and ask for a replacement copy.

Now what sort of proof of ID would they need?

Well if it is anything like us it would be your date of birth, where you was born and a cheque for 15 pounds.

I have always wondered why when we hold our security of identity to sacred and we have so many hoops to go through to get even a job. That to get one of the pieces of ID is so easy to obtain. I could get the birth certificate of anyone by simply knowing their birthdate, where they was born and pay the cost of replacement. You will then have a full birth certificate which most jobs need as one of your proofs of ID you can then once you have a job go get a replacement national insurance number, saying you lost yours. You then get a bank account once you have a job and birth certificate and then the world is your oyster.

I wish they would make it a little more difficult to get a birth certificate or a little easier to get a passport. I had to go thru a humiliating nationality test when I have been in the UK all my life yet the walls were plastered in languages from around the world to help people to get a UK passport. Surely if English is not your mother tongue then that is a bit of give away you might not be totally British.

Rant over,

Wonders how much Fiji had to pay for the replacement? A lot more then 15 pounds I guess.

Mind over matter

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear mind over matter in the past was a phrase my dad saId. "I don't mind and you don't matter." But I haven't seen my dad for a few years now and when I last saw him it was to be told to "BOGGER OFF and that he didn't want to see me again." So I kept him to his word.

Anyways that is not what I am writing about today. I am writing about funny coincides just the other day I watched a programme on EDEN called "LET IT SNOW" and it talked about a Japanese scientist who had done a study of positive and negative thoughts and how they effected the shapes of snow flakes. Positive music created near perfect flakes whilst negative thoughts and music made more imperfect flakes. Now I thought this was just a flight of fancy,

Then the other day I bought the new Dan Brown book The Lost Symbol (please don't tell me the end as I am only at page 119) But it seemed the premise of part of the book is the Noetic science. On how brain waves can actually alter the mass of an object. Now it is science fiction. But can we actually put a our brains into action and create something completely new.

All these self help books about better conversation and selling, is all normally about the LAW OF ATTRACTION. How positivity attracts positive thoughts and negative thoughts attract negative ones. Now who am I to question it, but it can not be any less of a nonsense than a lot of things that happen today.

So if you matter and you have a mind..... BE POSITIVE!

So far so good for the forum.

http://1millionways2connect.proboards.com/

Much like this blog it is difficult to get it set up and then folks to read it, and then hope people are interested enough to come back and use it again.

The forum has now got 8 members and all have contributed with some coming back again. It like most things in the garden will need a little attention but once formed I guess will simply look after it self. I just thought it might make a great addition to the blog and give folks more of their own input as they can advertise their own sites and use it to communicate with others.

Time will tell, but if you don't try you wouldn't get to find out if it works.

Happy connecting.

Well, I bought two new computers.

I had no intention of doing so and it seems when me and our lass go out we should go with some sort of security guard to ensure we don't just buy things.

Yesterday we went to go and get a charcoal drawing of ourselves framed. The drawing was done by a street artist in Venice and is very funny so once framed will have pride of place in the dining room. But we still had time and it was good to be out together as we are normally in different time zones work wise. We just never seem to be off together at the same time. Anyways. we go and have a look at kitchens and bathrooms because our lass is practical like that. We come home with a new I mac computer for our lass and a new windows 7 based computer for me so I can play the PC games our lass got us for my birthday.

We do have history of going out for one thing and then coming back with something completely different. one day we went out for milk and came back with a brand new sofa. Then after a weekend in Whitby we bought a new car on the way back. Now before you send begging letters thinking we are millionaires. neither of us smoke and we drink little and apart from the holidays and selected nights out we don't spend much. So when we do it is to feather the nest. Even yesterdays purchase earned us vouchers with Tesco because I used the interest free card to buy them and then make sure I pay it back in the year.

So we are not unfortunately rich but we are careful. So our lass has to figure out how to save all her photos and I have spent most of last night and this morning trying remember passwords for every site I ever been on as I always ask the computer to save them and as I use a different password for each site. There may well be a few sites I will either have to rejoin or never go to again.....

But I do love it, as I now have a mouse and not the slab of plastic which may be cool but is bloody irritating to use when you want to right click and copy and paste. Plus with the new computer everything is faster.

So whoppee.....

A new way to communicate and connect.

 UPDATE
***Proboards are experiencing problems with servers so TOO many connections, quite funny considering I am wishing to get a million connections. It should be up and running soon.***

UPDATE(10 mins later)
***Well that was quickly fixed they are a good service provider at proboards.***

http://1millionways2connect.proboards.com/

I have set up a chat board to compliment the blog, I hope that it might be useful for people to advertise their own blogs and sites and for it to become a little community where you can exchange ideas, places you have found and make new friends.

You would have to join to be able to post on the board. This is to stop bots from putting automated programmes onto the site. But everything will be viewable to members and guests a like so you don't have to join if you just wish to read.

I hope it can become a hub for people and help for not just myself to make new connections but everyone else as well.

Happy connecting

Fools Gold, Cube shines and PG movies.

It has been a hectic few days, and so not been able to get on the Internet to much. One thing I have been able to fit in was my viewing of strictly come dancing result show on Sunday night. The first contestant was eliminated and where most people thought it would be Ann the ex politician or Paul Daniels the now elderly TV magician it was Goldie and his controversial Russian dancing pro. Now was it a trick by the BBC or did the public really vote them off.

Last year the Russian professional dancer was in all the papers as she was reportedly the reason for why the professional boxer she was dancing with on last show split from his long time partner to be with her. It is also reported that Goldies son has been had up for murder and so could leave the BBC in a difficult position like last year when a celebrity contestant them self was being hauled before the courts and so missed an episode. Did the BBC push these two out or did the public vote them out ?

Cube shines !!! Have you ever tried to use predictive text when it doesn't know what you are wanting to spell, or even if you don't know how to spell what you want to say yourself. Cube shine is the nearest our lass could get to aubergine as she was cooking moussaka last night (it was fantastic) but cube shine was one of those happy accidents which actually make more sense than the word it self and so from this day forward I wont call them aubergines but cube shines.

And finally............

PG movies who do you sell them too. Our lass works in a supermarket and asked the question today, as normal her bosses never gave a straight answer, and considering you can get sacked or fined or both if you are really unlucky a clear message should be sent out.

At what age is something PG ? Some parents might be stricter than others. How do you define PG. Whilst the boss was giving out his speech he said " If a minor was trying to by a 12, 15 or 18 certificate and you refused them and they were with the parents and the parents said its OK I will by it for them, you would have to refuse to sell it to them as well"

Oh joy that would be a great conversation and news front page headline. 40 year old refused to be sold a 12 certificate film........

I wish the laws were more clear and that bosses would support their staff and not just dump on them, not a nice place to be in if you think you will get the sack on a technicality.

Was it you?

Well, there is one ticket for the Euro Millions sold in the UK. It is still not know if it is held by one person or a group but they win 113 million pounds / 183 million US dollars.

I myself didn't get even one number I couldn't have been further away if I had picked letters instead of numbers.

Oh well UK lottery tonight it has been a few years since I have even won a tenner my luck must change at some point.

112 million pounds eurolottery JAKCPOT. IS IT OBSCENE?

Well tonight is a super rollover of the euro millions lottery and the jackpot has reached 112 million pounds that is approx 130 million euros and 180 million yankee dollars. All in all it is a huge amount of money If someone wins from the UK they will probably make it into the top 500 rich list. So whilst others make the list by aptitude or skill one person could jump straight in by being luck.

But should one person win all that money? Why not spread the fortune have 112 new millionaires or even better still give 100,000 pounds to 1,120 people.

Now would I refuse the prize on principle if I was to win tonight. Hell no. I might have a conscience but I also have a brain who would refuse such a prize. Well maybe a wise man would. I spent 50 hours in total on a coach to Italy and back with our lass. I said that was test of our relationship I think being the owner of such a fortune would test it even further.

Who indeed would be your true friend? Would they befriend you or your money? Who exactly could you tell? I would prefer just for me and my lass to know and no one else in the family. But would that cause tension? I don't want begging letters neither would I want Sunday paper tittle tattle from people who have wild imaginations which sells papers but destroys lives as everyone would sell a story about you.

As for the money just how many houses and holidays could you possibly have? Wouldn't you want to do good with the money? I don't know if you have seen the 80s American show HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_to_Heaven but if I had the money I wouldn't mind going from place to place helping those in need. Helping charities, not by splashing money straight onto them but by staying with them as one of them and then purchasing the things they really need so the money wasn't lost in administration to pay for people to collect the money they want. (I hat that in charities).

So God! If you read my blog this is my promise to you if you let me win the lottery tonight I will dedicate my time to help those less fortunate and spread the wealth. ( I sound like a beauty queen now ) AGRHHH!

But I do feel that such an amount of money could do much more spread around than ruining the life of one person.

Anyone want a couple of lottery tickets as not sure now if I want to win?

Hi there, have you considered using link referral etc as a way of attracting new visitors. Gaining followers seems a quite a task but if you follow everyone else then more will follow back. It takes more time and investment but can be worth it. Blog catalog also can help you get more followers and retweeting posts will gain more views and maybe in time followers.
Hope this help

Thank you for the comment Luke, and anyones advice is clearly welcome. In response I do have blog clicker at the top and that helps drive thru traffic to the site. I do use blog catalog and mybloglog the site which has created most connections so far is mybloglog closely followed by blogged. I also have this linked in with facebook and twitter so it automatically puts a post on both and I will as time goes by find ways to automate a lot of what I do thru here.

I think the biggest thing you touch upon is time, three years ago I almost lived on the internet and this sort of project would have had my full attention and I would have lost myself in it. Nowadays I have my wonderful lass and a full time job, so these sorts of whims become ideas I have and a desire of wishing to complete the project but simply not having the time to invest into them.

So it has become my hobby, I also collect fridge magnets (yes I know, sad) but now I am collecting connections. It is good to have people like yourself who invest your precious time to read and to comment. Lets see what the future holds but I am looking upon this project as a hobby which will only expand my network of friends with people like yourself.

Thank you for your time.

Any Questions?

Day three of work for me so it means I get a long weekend off. So if anyone has any questions for myself no matter how silly leave a comment after this post. Thanks.

How I count my connections

I would like to thank Ropcorn for her question of how do I count my connections to thus blog?

It is a bit like creative accountancy and some people will be counted more than once, so if one person knows me thru several different mediums ie Twitter, blogged and facebook. They would be counted three times and not just the once for them self.

To be honest it was the only way I could count the connections. So a connection is counted by a person who has connected with me via any medium on the internet which I am using.

Thank you for the question Ropcorn.

How not to improve staff morale

First day back at work yesterday after my holidays and it seems I have missed all the action. Next time I go on holiday I will be putting a general email out to everyone telling them that there will be some impending doom.

In most of my previous jobs each time I took a holiday the companies I worked for have either sacked a lot of people or layed them off. I had gone to Whitby once and when I came back found only myself and two others working in what had been a full office in my previous job. It seems on the Friday they had split all the workers into two groups and those who had a job went into one room and those who didn't crowded into another. One room was exceedingly more full than the other and lets say they wasn't very happy. I not soon after left and got my current job.

I go to Italy to return and find out that they are getting rid of 1200 supposedly duplicated jobs and have made everyone above manager role redundant and asked them to reapply for their old jobs. You have a 90 day notice if you win your job back you stay if not you are made redundant you will find out just before Christmas.

This of course has made the whole workforce extremely uneasy. Luckily it doesn't directly effect me, but it does in the fact that the bosses now are worrying for their own jobs.

You do wonder is there a better way of organising life and those in business ? Why do we pay certain people benefits just to stay at home but tax others to the hilt and then make them worry about their own financial security?

I personally would scrap benefits of any sort to anyone and ensure we all fend for ourselves you would truly find out who could work and who couldn't.

As for my work place this Christmas could be a happy one as you have to apply to see if you get your own job back or one of A new horizon.... YO HO HO !!!

Norman Wisdom Dies

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11473214

For those who didn't know who he was I have included a link to his Obituary. He was much like Marmite you either loved him or hated him. He was much like the office clown who joked and played the fool at every occasion even if that occasion wasn't appropriate. But what you can't say bad about him is that he worked nearly right up until his death at the age of 95 only in the last year did he go into a rest home.

It must be amazing to have such a hold on a nation that when they hear the words "Mr Grimsdale" They instantly recognise who you are, and that you have become ingrained into a nations conscience. I found him funny as a kid but then I grew up. Maybe growing up isn't all what it is cracked up to be and we should all stay young at heart like Norman Wisdom did.

EUROPE 14.5 V 13.5 USA

Been a lazy last day before returning back to work. Great to see that Europe managed to regain the Ryder Cup, even though they did try to grab a defeat from the jaws of victory as at one stage the projected score was 18 v 10 and it slowly but surely slipped back to the USA. It made a good game to watch though and made it last till the end.

746 not out

746 Connections so far, been a little slow due to work and my recent holiday but thank you for all those people who are helping me reach my goal of a million connections.

It might seem a target which is far off. But how do you eat an elephant? One mouthful at a time.

Guilty pleasures

Just waiting for our lass to get ready and so thought I would pop on line. Whilst I have been away I have been thinking about many things. All of them I will discuss tomorrow, but first guilty pleasures.

My guilty pleasure is the Internet to be honest I would give up work to be on the Internet all day and if me and my lass ever split up I would spend the rest of my spare time on here. Is it right ? Well I don't drink/smoke and I am not a porn fiend so I see no wrong. But should something envelope your life so much ? I do feel guilty for the amount of time I think about certain things on the net. Such as what I could write on my blog. Like now I could be doing something around the house but have nipped onto the Internet. Guilt should never be over taken by remorse I know I should be doing other things but I never let them build into regrets.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Why aren't the Italians more relaxed about toilets?

Hello, I am back.

Just a flying visit it took yesterday to get over the coach trip back and today we are off to see our lasses first grandchild. So still a full schedule.

Will tell all about holiday soon enough. But must remark on Italian loos. They were simply holes in the ground around 80% of the time. For such a relaxed nation you would think they would want something to sit on and give them chance to read the paper or contemplate life. Not  just two foot rests and a handle if you are lucky to hold on to.

Manbags........

I am off to get myself a manbag today. I wonder how it gets defined as a man bag? The only other thing I would truly class as a manbag would be a scrotum. (sorry for being rude).

Holidays are coming and I am looking for something to fit everything in but not the size of a small suitcase and not really a rucksack though I may well go for this option. I am thinking of something similar to a satchel with a flap over the main bag with a zip lock across. It will contain the travel documents, passport and things for the trip such as digital radio, DS and a few books.

I did think about taking my big rain coat and filling each pocket with a different electrical item but then we had the travel documents so not really convenient to fold them up and when it gets hot which it is more than likely to do so all items will just get damp from my sweat. (oh what pictures I draw for you) lol.

I worry to much to be honest. where to keep the money? Where to keep passport? Will we be mugged? When we go off and on the coach can you trust the other passengers?

To be honest I hate carrying lots of things around with me, but also don't like things out of sight.

Any suggestions.

I have become a new member of steps.

I have as of yesterday afternoon progressed from step dad to 6 people to step granddad to one little person. I am still to marry our lass and I sometimes feel uncomfortable at the thought because their dad (granddad) (even though he is a shit,) is still around.

Their Dad is also off on holiday spookly enough in Italy and will probably when he here's the news say "Congratulations Son." Then break off to tell him what a great holiday he had. Or how he is doing something new in his life in retirement. Anyway.

You can not wipe the smile from our lasses face it is the first of her grand children to be born, there is another due just before Christmas so no sooner will she have been exhausted from the actions of wide eyed happiness and the sounds of arrrrs and oooooos then she will do it all again for grandchild number two.

The first was a baby boy by the name of Myles the second we know will be a boy but name still to be revealed. It is good when all around you seems like chaos then you have something to focus on which brings such joy. It is truly pleasing to see our lass so happy as she walked around the shops yesterday looking at baby stuff knowing she could spoil her new grandson, saying "I am a granny now" and giggling.

Do you think you should pay for what you get?

You may or may not know but I work for a mobile phone company in the UK talking to mobile phone customers and trying to retain their custom.

I enjoy my job, no matter how much I might moan about it because where else will I get paid to sit on my arse and talk to people all day.

Something which does annoy me is peoples inability to pay the price before them and I feel that the mobile phone companies set up the very problem themselves. When you purchase something from a shop you go in see the price pay for it and then leave with said item. If you don't like the price from one outlet you will shop around to see if you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

You wouldn't think of going to do your weekly shop at a big supermarket chain be told by the checkout operator what the bill is and then refuse to pay it and ask to speak to the manager, as you have shopped at that store for years and so feel you should get a bigger discount than other customers paying for the same items.

But a mobile phone customer does. They don't want to pay for the phone no matter how expensive it is, they dont want to pay full price for their usage of the phone no matter how excessive it is. They feel if they have signed up for a contract of 18 or 24 months and become bored of the phone after 12 months we should exchange it. My most amusing customers are those who manage to use the phone for over 3,000 mins a month and then complain that they have poor coverage and feel they cant use the phone fully. I do feel like saying it is not a coverage issue it is the fact that your battery is dying.

As for customers with poor coverage, they soon forget all about that if you offer them the very latest phone at a dirt cheap price. Once had a raging customer come thru who was going to leave and disgusted how he could never use his phone. I said sorry and advised on differing things we are doing to improve coverage, but did he know he was entitled to the very latest phone out for only £7.50 a month where it should be £30 a month. He snapped my hand off and took the phone. Silly really because if the coverage is so bad he will only have the status of carry a phone which will soon become outdated.

That is another thing, phones become outdated so quickly. Sorry Ropcorn but your I phone 4 will be superseded probably by a few other phones just in time for Christmas and by I phone themselves in the new year. But what does a customer do? You have a phone which you have to sign up for, for two years as it is the only way you can afford it. But it will be out of fashion sometimes after 6 months. Go phone me in retentions and moan about it and make my day LOL....

Moan over and thanks for reading.

A day and a half to Italy

Today is day 1 of my last shift before our holiday to Italy. We are going to Lake Garda because our lass has been there before and wanted to take me. But our lass does not like flying so thought we would never get to go. Due to my love of our lass and in all honesty not knowing what else to buy her last Christmas we find ourselves going on a coach trip to Italy.

The only thing which worries me is that we will nearly spend as much time traveling as we will in Italy. we get picked up at 4.25 am (have I told you we have to be up at 4.25am, actually we will have to be up well before that we have to meet the coach at 4.25AM) We are expected at our destination early afternoon on Saturday that is at least a day and half traveling. We could have gone to Australia and back in the same time by plane!!!

So things to do on a coach for a day and a half? Suggestions please.

Thursday, 16 September 2010

It's 4 in the morning and once more the dawning.

Just had word from the holiday company that we have to meet the coach for our trip to Italy at 4.25 AM (A bloody M). This is a Christmas present for our lass (from last year this year I am sticking with perfume), our lass doesn't like to fly so we have had to take a coach trip from the north of England down to Italy.

The tickets were promised to arrive 10 to 14 days before the trip with included schedule. I got a bit worried because we catch the coach next Friday. So I emailed them and have just had a phone call this morning saying said tickets are on their way and we are expected to catch the coach at 4.25AM (A BLOODY M). Have I said that we catch the coach at 4.25 AM.

Considering my inability to sleep properly at the moment I am thinking this is going to be one hell of a road trip.

Any suggestions for games to play or books to read for the trip. My idea is to take the compact DVD player and watch Doctor Who series ONE. Don't think our lass will appreciate that though.

So any suggestions folks.

Any ideas on how to clear your head?

At the moment I am feeling a little bit whey, a little bit woah. Nothing seems to be in balance. I just can't concentrate on anything my head is filled with things I should be doing and all sorts of ideas and just plain daft thoughts. But no ability to simply concentrate on one thing or get anything practical done.

I have not been sleeping well, waking up regularly around 1am if I go to bed early or 3am if I stay up hoping to sleep thru. I wake up usually after an intense dream while I think what is in the dream is real then realise I am awake then it takes around an hour to get back to sleep.

Do we have a doctor in the house?

Any suggestions on cures or reasons?

I am in the mood for dancing.

The end of 2010 is now almost complete for me. The return of http://www.bbc.co.uk/strictlycomedancing/ and I know there is several other variations around the world but this is still the original and the best.

My favourite dance of the last series

I don't have the grace or ability myself but you can but wish, if I could have a superpower, forget all about flying and x ray visionary, I would want the ability to dance to stand full square against an ability of DIY. Can you imagine the adventures of Bob lord of the dance Builder who builds a patio only to dance the night away with fair maiden.

So here is the question for today.

Which superpower would you like ?

Which dancer would you like to emulate ?

I myself would to be like Jamiroquai as you can see from the post below. Thanks for those who have posted in the past and look forward to reading more posts in the future.

You just can't predict the future.

I think a lot of what people worry about, is not what does or doesn't happen but what might happen. Three days ago I would have been bothered about my three days at work and will the schedule come thru for our holiday to Italy. Plus will one of our lasses daughter get the hint about going shopping for dresses is not going shopping for dresses with your mam if you have already chosen one and you just want her to pay for it.

I decided to try and intervene with the daughter and tried to alter what I thought would happen in the future this only resulted in making things worse. I do hate the way people try to put the blame onto you and make you feel bad when ultimately it is their own actions which were wrong and they take some false moral high ground to try and make you feel bad. anyways....

Work continues to stress, no sooner does one bar lower and change and alter what you had planned for that month but several others are raised. So the whole work schedule for the month I had planned is in the bin and a new one is needed.

Finally our lass was sat in her car at a junction waiting for the lights to change when she was hit in the rear by another driver. First concern was our lass, she is OK bumper took the main force. Other lady driver from all accounts was a bit spaced out and not much use. Just kept saying sorry. Our lass is narked as we wanted to get the car MOT'd before going on holiday now needs the back end fixing. Three days off turn into three days of sorting stuff which you didn't think you would be doing.

I am a planner love everything down in detail with a good idea of where I am going and when things will happen. So predicting the future and trying to react and predict peoples reactions is something I do a lot. To be honest I shouldn't even try and just go with the flow.

Magpies, cotton buds and wet grass.

Three questions for any readers who pass by and read this post.

Are you superstitious ?
Do you believe there should be a little danger in a childs life ?
What would you use if you needed to leave a trail to get you home?

I would say that I am superstitious to an extent, but what I really do try to do is to find signs in everything. Nature is in the main untempered it has no ulterior motive. So when I am lost myself I look around for answers from nature. Whilst walking the dog yesterday I saw 5 magpies. Quiet a record, normally you see them in ones and twos but yesterday there seem to be the whole family.

Count the magpies to tell the future:
One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret
Never to be told

So as I wait for my pieces of silver I move on to the next thing I noticed yesterday. Cotton buds!!! I had been walking the dog yesterday and found for about half a mile a trail of cotton buds leading to a bridge which crosses a local beck. I did wonder if a bridge troll had decided to roam the area but needed a method of finding his way back.

But the thing that stuck in my mind most was when I crossed the bridge you get into the earshot of the local school. All the usual noises of school children running around was sharply broken by a screaming teacher "GET OF THE GRASS IT IS TO WET TO PLAY ON!!!"

Had it been raining ? No. It was the morning dew which hadn't quite burnt off the grass yet. I did wonder at the mentality of all this correctness these days. So it is dangerous to run about on the wet grass because you might slip and fall. But we feel much better if you run around on the concrete because if you trip and fall on the it will be much better than falling on the dew laydened grass.

End of my ramblings and look forward to your answers to my questions.

What says Sweden to you?

My friend at http://ropcorn.com/ is doing well with her site and is going to be adding new pages to her blog the next one will be dedicated to her home country of Sweden.

So what says Sweden to you?

Is it Abba? Is it Henrik Larsson? or is it what I remember from my childhood which I found a video of below.

Don't try and grate cheese with a MR T action figure.

I always seem to choose the wrong words at the right time, and our lass is always very good at picking out a different meaning out of what I have said. Then again I always seem to create trouble out of nowhere seemingly so easily.

Yesterday I forgot what day it was. Working three on three off really throws you, you are then dispatching orders for customers so you talk about different days and then we had a surprise meeting at work I seemed to have lost the plot. I suddenly thought yesterday was Wednesday thus our lass would have been at work and so when I had my break I didn't bother texting due to the fact she wouldn't have been able to read them.

It was only after four hours of silence from myself that our lass sent me a text asking if I was alright as she hadn't heard from me. Now our lass was already down from recent events with her family and now felt I had forgotten about her. My reason must have seemed like one of the lamest excuses imaginable. "Sorry luv I thought it was tomorrow and you were at work"

It didn't go down to well to say the least and it was not until this morning that the incident was finally forgiven. Whilst laying in bed we were talking about various things and I said about the time I grated a large block of cheese for sandwiches my mam were making for a big wedding and I said I got a Mr T figure for it. To which our lass replied must have been a bit difficult grating the cheese with a MR T action figure.

This is what I love about our lass the ability to find the funny thing in all situations. well nearly all apart from when I forget what day it is.

Today is DAY 1 of time off and the connections reached so far has gone past 600 so thank you for those who have connected and a thank you to those who connect in the future, help me get towards the million connections.

Thoughts over dinner

Its been a funny couple of days, This is the first time I have had to catch up with the blog and I am doing that in my dinner break at work. Life is hectic some of which was self inflicted as I enjoyed my time on Saturday a bit too much and came back much the worse for drink. Our lass didn't mind that, but as most males will be aware you can easily found yourself painted into a corner and not even realise you were holding a brush.

I managed this trick on Saturday night and the resulting argument spilled over into Sunday, that is all resolved and now I have work to consider. It is getting busier which at least means my job is secure which is a bonus in itself these days. But bonus is the big issue and it seems my employers are trying their best not to pay us any. I was that wound up last night I was awake for two hours just mulling things over in my head.

But you have to put everything in perspective when I read this article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-11195393 I love ELO and have a best of CD which will be played on my first day off. But if you read how this bloke died am I the only one who has visions of final destination or the omen as the probabilities of being killed by a rogue bale of hay must be immense.

Anyway back to work for me hope you are all well and thanks for popping by.

Going out to play

I know at 36 to say you are going out to play is a bit childish, but does any of us really lose the child inside of us? I truly hope not.

Me and a former work colleague are going to play pool. He will moan about his new job and how he has to stand up all the time now. I will tell him what good timing he had for leaving, as the job has got much worse. When we have put work to rights we will then start on about our respective partners and then anything else. Once complete we should have consumed sufficient amounts of alcohol not to care about anything and return home just in time for dinner.

On a thoughtful note.

How on earth do you fit in enough time to do everything?

Yesterday I was in because the boiler was being replaced meant I could spend 6 hours on here (here being the Internet) whilst the boiler people got on with the job. I felt guilty as nothing else was being done, and much like today I will go out to play. Yet the jobs around the house mount up. I do , do my share like this morning garage is now cleaned and tidied after the boiler folks had finished and chores around the house. But still there seems so much to do and so little time to do it in. Then tomorrow I am back to my three days on at work. consisting of a 12 hour shift and 2 hours traveling there and back. Once your home and settled you just have enough time to sleep.

Do you find you have enough time? If so how do you manage it?

DAY 2

Since swapping to my new shift pattern, my perception of time and space has drifted into a three day cycle. I have to convince myself as to which day of the week it is. So to me today is not Friday it is DAY 2. midway point of my three days off. I have been looking on at my shift schedule for next year seeing where I can take holidays to extend the three days off especially when work days fall onto Sundays when my lass is off. unfortunately I work 26 Sundays and get 25 days holiday. So a lot of planning needed plus no other separate holidays can be taken. Oh well I will have a cunning plan.

I have been wandering this morning and after looking at http://ropcorn.com/ I remembered it is the Euro Millions tonight so must have myself a go. Well not that I must it isn't a new English law that everyone must take part. But it is the quickest way I will get the money so me and my lass can move to the Shetlands, and I will need plenty of money to convince our lass it is a good move.

If I get chance there is also another bet I will be putting on tomorrow, it is a a lucky 15 correct score bet for four football matches tomorrow. I try and find four games where I think they will fail to score. I then put a minimum of 10 pence per bet if you can put a pound a bet you will get more back. you are covering 15 bets four times singles then the doubles, trebles and the one fourfold. thus lucky 15 times what ever you stake.

Considering all football games start nil nil you at least start off a winner it is just your teams choices to lose. so if only one of the four matches ends nil nil you get your money back, as nil nil correct scores normally offer 8/1 and a lot of bookies will pay out double if you go for lucky 15 bets. if two win you get double your money and if you find four nil nil results and you placed a 15 pound total bet (15 x £1) you could win back around 9 grand.

It makes it a  lot more interesting watching the results as they come in on a Saturday afternoon hoping the games you picked remained goal less.

What do you think ?

Connections have reached 566 and thanks to new found friends on the net I am finding many more places to get connections. Happy days no matter which number it may be.

People you find on your travels

Was just doing the rounds of mybloglog and a new member joined up that took my eye, Steve N Allen. Who knows he could be the next big thing or never to be heard of again but why not take a look yourself and tell me what you think.

Made me laugh but then again I laugh at rain.

Walking through a field of angels

In a bid to get fit, a bid which is in all honesty to little to late, I walked to work yesterday. It was great because being a bank holiday it was still quiet as everyone was sensibly still in bed or relaxing as they didn't have to go to work.

Whilst on my way to work I come across a field filled with white feathers and they had blown over a good 200 metre strip of verge. Now our lass always laughs at me. as I say that seeing a white feather means there is an angel around looking over you and it will bring you good luck. To which she replies "It means a bird has lost its feather."

So imagine my delight as I walk through thousands of white feathers. If I had been near a newsagents I would have bought a lottery ticket. How did my day go? Well apart from the usual abuse from customers who cant get what they feel they should have no matter what they have knowingly signed up to and tied themselves in with. It was a pretty poor day. Our lass is a little down due to not being well, and other members of the family have a knack of dragging you down as they weigh their expectations on you for what they want themselves.

I thought just for one moment is this angel thing any good. There was no miracle day, no great wonderful surprise. But sometimes it is not until you haven't got what you have that you miss it. I should be grateful of being able to go to work, having my health and strength and a lass that I love, and if my angels can help to guide me to keep on the right path for this to stay in place then I will be truly happy.

Another day another dollar.

With great speed my three days off have come to an end, all the hopes of jobs to be completed around the house and garden dissappeared into smoke as I watched the telly far more than I should. Now I have three days of work to look forward to.

Today is a Bank holiday in the UK so it may well not be as busy where I work as a majority of the people will not think that I am working. On the otherhand the type of customer I ger call up on a bank holiday is usually more narked and determined and so not the casual passing trade you might get at any other time.

If you was a happy go lucky sort of person, would you think to phone up and complain about something at around 8.30am on a Sunday morning? No you wouldn't. So today will be like one long sunday morning filled with moaners and chancers and the occassional numpty wondering why they haven't had what they wanted delivering today because the computer systems didn't tell the sellers on Friday, so they gave todays date and now the customer is narked because they haven't got what they wanted.

At the end of the day though it is a job, and no matter how much miss placed anger I have to face. I get paid to sit on my arse and talk to people. Easy enough job don't you think?

Returning to the blog, the connections have gone up again and have gone well past the 500 today the blog is one month old. so yippee.

A little bit down today.

Yesterday I explained (probably not in a PC way) that I was as happy as a special person standing under a glitter ball watching the dancing lights move around me.

Today I feel like someone has switched off that glitter ball. It seems people greed for money has got into every area of sport, turning our national game into nothing better than American wrestling. There is many parts of cricket which is being destroyed by modernism. But it is good to hark back to a time when the finer things in life came before anything else, and life had to have a structure of lunch then tea. Applauding a player for a fine display. But now it is a loud disco and lager louts singing.

Lets hope they get the reports of match fixing sorted and at some point somebody has a sense of decency to sort life out full stop. You have politicians with a do as I say not do as I do mentality as they rob the public of as much money as possible.

Oh dear I could really be stood on this soap box for a while, lets end with some good news my connections has gone past 500.

What I am upto today....

I have one ear and an eye on the test cricket because England have incredibly turned around certain defeat at 102-7 then they make a world record eighth wicket stand and finally dismissed just after lunch on 446. Pakistan now come into bat are already 10 runs for three wickets.... So I am very happy. There is football this afternoon and grand prix racing tomorrow so there is so many shiny things around to distract me I am like a special person standing under a glitter ball.

But I have been putting a little time into today. I have joined blogged yesterday and have gained 5 followers for myself and you can click the link and follow the blog yourselves if you like. http://www.blogged.com/blogs/one-million-connections.html

I have also been catching up with comments Thanks to Doug for the kind comment of thinking this was an interesting idea. Must admit the blogclicking is to do nothing more than try and bring more folks thru the blog. It is no good having an idea if no one sees it.

For Allen I have added you button bottom right and others want to view his site click here http://woodworkessence.com/
Sorry if thats not what you meant but you do have an interesting site and would advise anyone to pop by to have a look.

Finally since starting this blog I have been popping by Ropcorns blog be interesting to see how she progresses as we started our ideas at the same time. It is good to view into someones life and what interests them especially folks from other countries. Want to look at her blog click here http://ropcorn.com/

Back to the cricket hoping for more wickets.

I HATE FORM FILLING. DON'T YOU?

If there is one thing in life I hate most of all, it is form filling. I don't mind filling out a form the first time. But sometimes if you have multiple applications you find yourself having to repeat the same information again and again. Why can't you just copy and paste the same info everywhere.

Why am I on about this? It is because I have just joined some new blog directories. The buttons for said directories are down the side.

I had the same angst when I was applying for jobs. I had my CV very neatly typed out and including every bit of information you could ever need to know about me. Yet you still had to fill out the companies very own forms. Even now which I am still at a lost to figure out why. If I want a transfer within my own company I have to fill out a form and include my CV and I can't use the company I work for as a reference ???? What da FOK. So I have worked for you for two years, without time off or absense and have recevied various recommendations and thanks for the job I do. Yet I can't use any of that if I wish to transfer to another department within the same company. go figure.

As for online forms. I live in ENGLAND it is part of the UK but very much its own country and to be honest if you do want to lump us all together I would prefer Great Britain at least we would be nearer to the top of countries.

OK moan over and back to more form filling.

P.S. good news is the blog should reach 500 connections soon not bad for the first month.

BACK TO THE REAL WORLD

Three days off from work means I can now re join the real world. I have the greatest hits of THE POLICE playing on the stereo (the inspiration for this blog) and the sun is shining outside. Could only be happier if our lass was here as well (but she finishes work at 2pm so not to long till then).

Connections are still being made, even whilst I have been away. So off to count them up and make new links with other sites and blogs.

Hope my readership is as happy as well.

HELPING ME WILL HELP YOURSELF

I need to boost a couple of areas in the next few days. The first is blogclicker as the five people who have joined up and allowed me to get 500 credits and drive people to my site is running out.

So would you like to get people to your own blog or site and help me in the process.

Click the banner at the top of the page and read all about it. It is FREE to join and I gain a 100 credits which can be used to bring folks to this blog.

Below is a link to a site which greatly increased my Twitter followers, I used it yesterday and grew from 6 to 94 in a matter of minutes If you use the link I think it boosts the number of followers for me again.

So help yourself to help me

Thank you

WOW this really worked on twitter.

http://letgetmorefollowers.com/connect.php

I Have just jumped from 6 followers up to 94 in a matter minutes.

Now if you read the previous post that has taken about 8o years off the project...

Slowly but surely

The number of connections grows on a daily basis but no where near as fast as I thought it was going to. At the current rate of connections per day it will take me over 182 years to reach one million connections.

You can see the problem with it taking 182 years, I might have just lost interest at some point. Plus I have no son and air to pass down the project too.

"Here son, I want you to continue my project to connect with a million people"

I am guessing it will be a much better legacy than an old DVD collection or collection of fridge magnets.

We are fast approaching 400 connections and the best site so far is mybloglog if people who pass by have any good suggestions of sites to join, drop me a comment and I will take a look.

In the mean time have a laugh at Ross Noble. He is a very funny comedian and this is something I found on my internet travels.

Everyday you find something new

http://funksanctum.blogspot.com/
I would like to thank the above blog not only are they the 26th follower of this blog and my 315th connection but they helped me find the little yellow widget on the right hand side. So people can quickly connect with me.

It is good to explore other peoples blogs and sites as you simply don't have the time yourself to find these things.

Work as always is getting in the way of real life, it is Day 2 of my three on so this is as much time as I will be spending on here. But a big thank you to all those who continue to connect and leave messages in my absence.

Soon be the weekend and time will spent connecting with more people.

UPDATES AND TINKERING

I have been tinkering with the blog and if you notice there is now four tabs at the top which keep you updated on how to connect with myself and how many connections I have so far, with a little explanation as to why I am doing this.

I must admit it has been slower process than what I had hoped but that in the main is down to myself. I have been busy with work and when I have been off I have been busy with the real world. So I can't really complain.

I would like to thank

Which site should I join next?

Any ideas folks on which site I should join next to gain some more connections ?

I have just finished my three days on work, so my life is now my own for the next three days. Whilst I have been away the connections have only slowly risen. But blogclicker has really done a good job, for anyone wanting traffic it has brought me in 50 people a day and I haven't even been here.

Click on the BLOGCLICKER BANNER at the top of the page to see more, of all the things I have used so far that has been the best.

So all ideas in the comment section please.

0.0207 % OF THE MISSION COMPLETED

For the second day running this blog is a hot blog on mybloglog and my member account has now become a hot member. Both of these actions have created a lot of responses and has helped increase the connections. At present the number of connections is up to 207 and clicks thru to the blog are also increasing as well.

Thanks to those who have connected so far. Yes there is still a long way to go, but the only way you will get to a destination is to be on the road traveling towards it.

BLOGCLICKER WORKS BUT FACEBOOK DOESN'T

You will see from the button near the top of the page that it is advertising the services of blog clicker. Now you will read testimonials of people on other sites saying "This service or that service was great " or " How revolutionary it was for them " But I have nothing to gain and I am not being paid to say this. But Blog clicker has worked or shall I say it has done exactly what it said on the tin ( I guess you have to be from the UK to appreciate the advert.)

It is free to join and if you join through that button I get a 100 credits which then allows this blog to appear on other blogs and get people to click through to here. You can pay for the service if you wish. But I won't be spending a single penny on this blog so have found the free service to be sufficient.

The traffic has increased by quiet a lot and I have been rewarded by the credits for those who have clicked through. So if you wish to try it, then press the button and see what you think. You can then get your own button and then start earning your own credits for people you put through. I also get secondary credits as the people you recommend become my line 2 referrals and so I get a little something for them as well. Happy clicking.

As for Face book I will keep this short and sweet. I have only asked to befriend people they recommended or people I have met on my travels and after only two weeks they have restricted my account. This from a site which delves into your email and computer to suggest friends and to find information about you. They are saying for the integrity of the service they don't want people who have not had every single friend request accepted.

Well I am sorry but I don't like a service where every game you play you are having to tell them every bit of information you loaded onto the site about yourself and your friends so they can advertise to them. It was going to have it's limitations anyway as you could only have 5,000 friends so I am going to concentrate on promoting the group or company link in which folks can like it, but over time might drop this for something else.

Thanks for reading.

I AM HOT STUFF (IT'S OFFICIAL)

Yes you read it right, this blog is officially hot stuff. According to mybloglog this blog has become one of their HOT communities. It has helped bring a surge of people thru to the blog and increased the chances of connections.

It is something I must thank all the people who have become members over the past couple of weeks, it is thanks to them that this blog has become HOT stuff.

Hopefully over the coming days and weeks it should help push the connections up significantly.

DO WE THINK TOO MUCH?

I must admit that I think too much and do too little.

I work three on three off and find when I am on the ON cycle of work it envelops what I do and think. I have tried to get onto this project from work but I have realised that to really make a genuine success of this in the time scale I have given it, it would have to be a full time project.

It does not mean I have given up on my goal simply I have realised the size of the task.

It is a great distraction to visit other peoples blogs and sites. You get a glimpse into someones world in which you can't just view by looking at someone as they walk by. To view written words you delve into the quietness of a look and feel the essence of what is within that person. On the other hand you see a lot of people who are wishing to make money without actually doing any work, good luck to them but the fastest way to make a buck is to actually do some physical work and not hope everyone will click your adsense adverts.

But we all have our own dreams and it is not for me to diminish theirs. I myself would be proud to be connected to a million other people but what practical sense does it make? How will it improve my life and of those around me ? I have my own addictions in life, to gamble and to eat. Both of which are vices which give you very short term pleasure and long term anguish. To focus on something else is what may help break them vices. So that is what I will gain.

So what do you gain from the internet or from what you have decided to do?

100 Connections only another 999,900 to go

74 facebook friends 2 followers of the blog 20 contacts on my blog log and 4 followers from my blog log total 100.

It may be a steady start but I always think of the story about the Chinese man who asked to be paid in rice for a job which he did for the emperor. he suggested that on day one he would be given one grain of rice. Then on day two that would be doubled to two and then on day three it would be double to four grains of rice and then on day four doubled to eight and so on until the emperor run out of rice.

The emperor of course laughed thinking that the man would be working forever for a few grains of rice. It was only a matter of weeks before the Chinese peasant had all the grains of rice in China. The doubling effect only needed a short time before he could claim millions of grains of rice.

The reason for the tale, is much like this blog the first few contacts will be hard to find and it will take time to get people to connect. But when the blog is established and I have got to a critical mass of a few thousand I can imagine that the blog will almost be self feeding and the last 900000 people will be easier to add than the first 100000.

Get yourself many followers on Twitter

Follow this link and it will help you find followers for your twitter page.

Things you find on your travels

I have been using my time off to find different ways to link the blog to other sites and web ideas across the net. Blog clicking and tweet feeds have been joined and promotions in various other ways.

But then I came across this and found it so funny that I had to share it. Just how serious a crime has some one had to commit to be then forced to dance to old 80s records.

Watch and enjoy.

Oh and connect with me and become one of the one million.

DAY 5 OF FINDING A MILLION CONNECTIONS

Since starting the project this is the first time I have actually sat down for any reasonable length of time to see what I can do to promote the project.

The connection count at the moment stands at 75 but considering no effort has been afford as of yet it is amazing I have any connections at all.

It is fascinating to see into other folks lives thru the power of Facebook and you delve into internet worlds you would have not glimpsed if it wasn't for seeking out the new connections.

Thank you to all those who have connected so far. Onwards and upwards to more connections.

TIME

Time is a commodity which is wasted by many but is so scarce and precious to us all. There would be a time when I lived on the Internet, I had no job and no prospects in life and found the ability to immerse yourself in the Internet a great relief and escape from where I was at the time.

Now things are different, you have moments in the shower when you think to your self "Wouldn't it be great to be connected with a million people around the world." . Without actually thinking the process through.

May well explain that at the end of day 1, I have 35 Facebook friends and 2 members on my blog log. total 37. If I continued to gain 37 connections a day it would take over 27,000 days to reach one million connections which is just over 74 years.

Now the plan is to do it in one year and so I would have been expected to get 37 connections by 12.17pm GMT yesterday some 17 mins into the project.

Can you see a down side to the plan?

But undeterred I will continue but work and life are still an important aspect this is not real after all and so will be dealt with in its place as a hobby.

It may take a bit longer than planned that's all but at present the goal is still a year away. Not giving up on day one on the target.

The Stats behind getting a Million connections...

A million connections may well seem a lot, but much like eating an elephant it is best tackled by not looking at the whole but saying to yourself. "Which is the best way to eat an elephant?" The answer ... A mouthful at a time.

So here is the break down we have 365 days until 30 July 2011 that is some 8760 hours and that equates to 525600 minutes so if I got two connections a minute I would smash the million connections marker.

it works out at 2740 connections needed a day or 114 per hour.

The control time will be today Friday 30th July at 12pm UK time and connections will be accepted friends on Facebook, Followers on Twitter or followers of this blog, or any other medium used during the next year. A connection will be counted as someone who has made an effort to accept a request or has themselves wished to link to myself.

Now I know that means a person could be connected with me more than once (ie thru a facebook account and twitter and elsewhere) But the goal is to get a million connections.

I think it could well be an interesting adventure during the next year. Who knows what will happen, but it will be interesting to find out what does happen.

One small step...

My very first connection and we are a matter of minutes into this. Thank you to Gregory Midgley the first person to accept the friend request and the first to start towards the goal of a million connections. One down, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine to go. Thats a lot of nines....

Will busy myself over the next hour or so logging this site in different search engines, setting up the account on facebook and twitter and other means of getting connections but for the time being it is always good to find that first connection.

One Million Connections

One Million Connections. That is how many connections with people I want by this time next year. Whether it be via Facebook, Blogger or Twitter or any online means.

It will take some doing, but if you don't give it a go how would you know if it is possible.
